PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT NATIONAL DAY OF HONOUR FLYBY OVER PARLIAMENT HILL May 8, 2014 Department of National Defence Ottawa In recognition of those who fought, those who fell, and to salute all those who contributed to Canada’s mission in Afghanistan, a flyby representing the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) aircraft that deployed in support of Canada’s military mission in Afghanistan will take place over Parliament Hill on Friday May 9th. The flyby will occur in two waves. The first flyby will commence over Parliament Hill at 1:32 p.m. on May 9, and is expected to include the following aircraft in order: a. 2x CH-146 Griffon helicopters; b. 1x CH-147F Chinook helicopter; c. 1x CC-130 Hercules tanker; d. 1x CC-150 Polaris Airbus; e. 1x CC-177 Globemaster; f. 1x CC-130J Hercules Cargo Aircraft; and g. 1x CP-140 Aurora. The second flyby will consist of the three helicopters and will happen at approximately 2:00 p.m., just prior to the parade contingent marching off Parliament Hill. The aircraft will conduct their flyby travelling east to west at an altitude no lower than 500 feet. Flybys by RCAF aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure public safety at all times.
