PUNE: The death toll in the massive landslide in Malin village in Maharashtras Pune district has gone up to 8and over 150 are feared trapped under the debris on Wednesday. Home minister Rajnath Singh will visit the area today. Additional district collector Ganesh Patil told PTI two persons have also been pulled out alive. Around 300NDRFpersonnel are assisting the local administration in the rescue operations, Patil said. Nearly 80personnel of the National Disaster Response Force have already reached landslide affected Ambegaon and joined in the rescue operations, while 220 more are on their way to the spot, ahome ministry spokesperson said here. Those who have reached the site, started the rescue operations. They are also trying to restore the communication network. The district administration fears that the death toll mayincrease further. About 40homes located under ahillock came under boulders, debris and mud after the landslide that happened in the early hours, the district authorities said. The village is located on aremote hilly area and the region has been witnessing heavy downpour for the last two days. The rescue operations have been taken up on awar front, authorities said. Two teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with rescue teams of Pune Municipal Corporation have been deployed at the site. Besides local teams from Khed, Junnar and Ambegaon tehsiles have been asked to join the rescue operations. Teams of medical staff from nearby government hospitals and afleet of 25ambulances have also been pressed to rescue villagers trapped under the debris, authorities said. Authorities said that teams of mountaineers have also been sent to the site to help the administration. The district administration has set up two control rooms at Manchar, taluka headquarters and at Pune to coordinate rescue operations. Authorities said that aportion of hill came crashing down on the village due to heavy downpour which loosened the boulders. The authorities are facing hurdles in rescue operations as the village is located in aremote area, about 12kmfrom Dimbhe dam,and there is no network for mobile communication. Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar are expected to visit the site.
