PURNO SET TO DRIVE AWAY FEAR IN GARO HILLS. SHILLONG: Installation of CCTVs surveillances in main locations of Tura, setting up of many street lightsare the suggestions of Tura MP PA Sangma to drive away fear psychosis from the minds of the people of insurgency ravaged Garo Hills. Another suggestion was to set up dedicated hotline phones to help the people who are in need. During a view meeting held on Saturday with the officials of West Garo Hills, Sangma even offered to give money from his Local Area Development fund if necessary. He also instructed the Tura Municipal Board which has already installed CCTVs inside its Super Market complex, to install more cameras outside its complex. He also discussed with the MeECL officials for the installation of street lights in the Tura bazaar area. Tura market area is in darkness in the absence of street lights and he asked the MeECL officials to submit a report within 15 days in this regard. There were also suggestions of using solar street lights as they would be more economical in the long run. The Tura MP held the review meetings with a few selected departments to assess the overall situation of Tura town and West Garo hills as a whole. During the meeting, Sangma was apprised by the district administration that the situation is now getting contained but however asserted that constant monitoring is required. The District Administration also informed the Tura MP that the Centre has released a total 10 companies of central police force and out of which 4 are in West Garo Hills. In view of the recent spurge of kidnappings, receiving of demand letters in the district, resulting in people experiencing fear psychosis, Sangma suggested that a dedicated hotline in the form of LL phone or mobile number can be used to bring necessary help to the victims. Sangma said more police patrolling and visibility of security personnel should be made in all the important market places, trading areas like weekly markets in major villages. In the recent past many kidnappings took place in market areas and main towns, like Daddenggre, Chibinang and Dalu, and the presence of police personnel would give some confidence in the minds of the people in the villages. This should also be done in Tura main market, Najing bazaar, where more police patrolling parties should be deployed, he said.
