PURPLE FRIDAY [BYE EDITION] : There are two schools of thought about the Friday on the Bye - is it truly a Purple Friday if the Ravens do not have a game? I take the position that every Friday during the NFL season is a Purple one - hence my collection of dress shirts of said color. This Off-Week lets me retreat to Nags Head for some relaxation. After five straight games (two of which were on the road) and a tough loss in Pittsburgh, I need a chance to re-boot. This team is not living up to my expectations and is very herky-jerky in how they are playing. The Offense is still stumbling along, the Defense is good in some games and then leaky in others, and the Special Teams have a ton of errors showing up in all phases. Perhaps I figured they could put things together with the overall modification too soon. The new faces and the youth sprinkled throughout seems to be the cause of a lot of inconsistency. The key injuries have been a factor but every team carries that issue. It will be up to the Coaches to examine the film, study how they are calling the plays and study who is out there to play. They also need to consider who is just not good enough for the run for the rest of the season. They have dug a hole and the margin for error is not like last year when they started 9-2. They have to figure a way to be relevant for the playoffs. The way the team stumbled into the Bye Week let the Nutty Convention show up on Sports Talk. The old Harbaugh hires his friends so he should be fired campaign has been brought back in re-runs. I am SHOCKED that a Head Coach (or anybody in business) would hire people that they know they can work with. It really surprises me that people think that since there are only 32 jobs like it, a HC would be smart enough to get it but dumb enough to hire people who are friends but who are unable to do their job. As far as I am concerned, all of the people on that Band Wagon that believe that kind of mush should get a 15-yard penalty for Illegal Use of Mind. For them the Brain is a luxury so they do not use it often. Hope everybody has a good time during the Bye,while the Ravens regroup. For the Fantasy Football People, you do not get a break.
