PUTNAM COUNTY, TN – Marijuana Plants Seized at Putnam County Residence A joint investigation by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), Cookeville Police Department, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) culminated in the arrest last night of Joshua Hayes, 29, a resident of Cookeville, on charges of possession of a controlled substance, as well as the manufacture, sale and delivery of a controlled substance. According to PCSO Detective Chuck Johnson, the Sheriff’s Office was called to assist the Cookeville Police Department after a 7:30 p.m. traffic stop on Jefferson Avenue by Cookeville officers developed information that marijuana plants were being grown at a residence in Putnam County’s jurisdiction. Hayes was arrested at the scene of the traffic stop by Cookeville PD. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance. During the investigation, information was obtained that Hayes was growing marijuana at his grandmother’s residence on Cookeville Boat Dock Road. Narcotics detectives from Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Cookeville PD, and TBI responded to the residence and confirmed that marijuana plants were being grown outside the residence. A total of 23 marijuana plants were confiscated as evidence. Hayes’ grandmother was unaware of her grandson’s activity on her property. Hayes was booked into Putnam County Jail with a total bond of $25,000. The investigation continues.
