PV Narasimha Rao aided and abetted the demolition of the Babri Masjid, Jagdish Tytler was involved in the Sikh riots, the Haryana government turns a blind eye to khap panchayats... yet Narendra Modi is deemed anti-secular :o ! I am not a "pseudo-secularist" but a genuine atheist who hates religion of all kinds, but blaming the BJP and projecting the Congress as a paragon of secularism is a cynical, barefaced lie. For all his flaws, Modi is no more of a hardline Hindutwa man than Omar Abdullah is a hardline Muslim, both are opportunist politicians, and as such, their lack of integrity paradoxically makes them good leaders. Let us see Modi as a harbinger of a right-wing groundswell in India, his pros and cons are to be discussed within this framework. To be hung up on the 2002 riots is too give the terribly corrupt Congress a carte blanche that no mature democracy ought to proffer a malfeasant incumbent.
