#PYS #Electrical The Danger With Flooded Batteries https://youtube/watch?v=yebIU-a9Qt4 ----------------------------------------------------------- Flooded lead acid batteries need the utmost care to avoid problems like overflowing or spilling sulphuric acid. Its commonplace for flooded batteries to spill. Sulphuric acid can significantly damage a boat and cost tens of thousands in repairs. In this video all the batteries are simply sitting in the bottom of the boat. At the very least, every flooded battery needs to be in a spill proof, water-tight, and acid proof battery container. However, more often than not, these leak proof battery boxes are screwed down from the inside of the box. This completely negates the purpose of the box as the acid can dissolve the screws and seep through to other parts of the boat. Sometimes boxes are not used for logistical reasons, there simply isnt enough room. If for some reason you cannot install a battery box, then you must use AGM or gel batteries. These batteries will NEVER leak acid. For example, in an AGM battery the acid is absorbed by a glass mat within the battery. It should also be noted that overfilling a flooded battery (especially when they arent in a watertight compartment) can cause disastrous and extremely costly damage to your boat.
