Pablo = leagues biggest underachiever. Fan favorite, clutch performer, great natural ability, and also, EXPENDABLE/REPLACEABLE. His stats are already on the decline at age 28. 5 years more of him would be rewarding the nostalgia of the past, recklessly gambling the future, and almost certainly a hindrance for most of that excessive contract. Im sorry Panda lovers, but dudes production is not particularly impressive. From 2012-14, hes averaged a .280 BA w/ 14 HR, 72 RBI, 60 R, .335 OBP, and 135 games played. Good, but not great. Far from reliable. Certainly not worth almost $20 mill a season for a long term deal. And for his career, he swings at 44% of the pitches OUT of the strike zone. Atrocious. He swings at 57% of the total pitches he sees! Yet his contact % is in step with the MLB average. Hes his own worst enemy. Homie should be MVP quality, but hes not. I honestly wouldnt have minded him back... But Im not concerned hes gone either. Not for 5 yrs $95 mill. His contract is bad value for too long of a time period. Simple and plain, and true. My gut tells me he will have 1-2 pretty big years in Boston (which will hurt to watch), but he sucks for the rest of his bloated contract.
