Packages of bacon are piled on a large cart. They will be weighed on the scale in the background, marked for price, and prepared for distribution. The man closest to the cart, on the left, is Arthur Howard. Notes Similar to Stone photograph negative #6626 (RMSC), which was printed in the Rochester Herald, August 27, 1919. Thirty-three tons of bacon and ham have been sent to Rochester. The meat will be divided evenly among the 23 fire stations in the city, approximately 1 1/2 tons to each, and sold at cost to the public. Each firehouse will have 600 pounds of ham and 2,406 pounds of bacon, with more to arrive in the following days. Boneless bacon and No. 1 hams will be sold for 33 cents per pound, compared to the usual retail price of 40 cents per pound for bacon and 38-40 cents per pound for ham in the Rochester market.
