Paddy’s and Patrick’s guests were treated to a very eventful sighting of the Ottawa pride as they were lying in a particularly sandy section of the Sand River. Sand is not always a loaded Land Rover’s friend, so when Paddy was ‘temporarily immobile’ and needed a quick tow within the lion sighting, Patrick came to his assistance. However, just as the vehicle became ‘mobile’ again, the tow rope managed to dislodge itself from Paddy’s vehicle and started dragging behind Patrick. This proved to be too much of a temptation for an inquisitive lioness, which quickly pounced on the rope and tried to play a game of tug of war with the Land Rover! It didn’t take too long for the cubs to join in, and soon a major game started! For nearly twenty minutes this continued, as each time Patrick tried to move when they released the rope, the moving target suddenly became of interest to the lions again! Eventually Paddy had to return the favour and came to Patrick’s rescue, encouraging the pride away from the rope with his Land Rover, until James was able to retrieve it again.
