Padres lose to the Mets tonight 5-4 and Huston Street gets traded to the Angels. First the game. Ian Kennedy did not have his bet stuff tonight, specifically as far as I could see he was missing his good curveball. Fastball command pretty good early on, but made some 2-strike mistakes that cost him 3 in the first and another pin the 3rd. he finally seemed to get the feel for his off speed in the 4th, but the runs were in and the pitch count were up at that point. He lasted 5 and was pinch hit for when the Pads busted out for 4 thanks to run scoring hits by Amarista (3 hits on the night and a great defensive play), newcomer Chris Nelson, and Headley to tie it up. It stayed that way until the 9th when Benoit came in (situation that Street would normally pitch), and made a mistake to DArnaud that allowed the winning run. Meanwhile during the ballgame the trade of Street to the Angels was being formalized. He went out to the bullpen in the 7th, but in the 8th Buddy called down to tell him he was likely not going to be put into the game because of the trade. Once the game ended it was officially announced that he and minor league pitcher Trevor Gott were heading to Anaheim for minor league infielders Taylor Lindsey (ranked as their top prospects), and Jose Rondon, and RHPs R.J. Alvarez (ranked #4 prospect) and Elliott Morris. I will miss Huston not only for his skill as a control style closer, but his intelligence about the game, his non-stop business transactions off the field, and his overall class in how he handled himself throughout his time here in San Diego, including his willingness to always be available for interviews, and his farewell press conference tonight where he had nothing but good things to say about his time in S.D. All around class act, and I wish him the best with the Angels. More trades are certainly a possibility, and it will be interesting to see the young talent that can be stockpiled if more veterans are moved.
