Page #365 of Book #1 or Page #1 if Book #2? Considering the phone call came at 8:00pm on New Years Eve I will close out the year with this chapter..... As you all know Anthony was admitted for an overnight stay last week and we came home on Christmas Eve with all results if all tests coming back negative. (This is good) After a great memorable time celebrating Christmas at home, we headed back up to DUKE this past Tuesday for a follow-up visit which included another small bowel biopsy, the normal labs we always get done and a virus panel because Anthony has been battling a head cold/cough. Labs looked good, off we went back to Waxhaw waiting on biopsy and virus results. Frank and I had already decided our New Years would need to be split because one of us had to stay home with Anthony since he still had the sniffles and a slight cough...Frank La Penna volunteered to stay back at the homestead while I took Julia and Christian to a few if the neighborhood festivities. At 8pm in New Years Eve the phone rings..(919) three of my most disliked #s as this is the area code for DUKE. It was transplant....Anthonys biopsy is showing minor rejection....this is all that I heard and then after I snapped back I also heard He has tested positive for Hunan Metapnuemo Virus... Excuse my language.. but WTF, is this a joke? On New Years?? The virus alone sounds like a plague of some sort. Well after some talking and planning and more discussions and planning, we have increased his antirejection meds and will head back up to DUKE first thing tomorrow morning for more labs and another biopsy along with an admission ( see ya tomorrow DUKE ladies). The team is not sure if it is a TRUE bout of rejection or if the virus is altering the true results. We will know more by tomorrow night or Saturday. So I was hoping to not have to ask for prayers so early in the New Year, but this just shows that we can never let our guard down. Stay tuned for The next Chapter in ....The Life of Transplant.
