Adopted by H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Tarabai Raje Sahib, Regent of Gwalior and widow of H.H. Maharaja Jankoji Rao Scindia, 7th February 1843. Ascended the gadi, at Lashkar, 22nd February 1843. Installed, 20th January 1844. Reigned under the regency of his adopted mother until he attained his majority, 19th January 1845. Granted the titles of Azim ul-Iqtidar, Rafi-us-Shan, Wala Shikoh, and Muhtasham-i-Dauran. Raised to a permanent salute of 19-guns, 1st November 1861. Attended the Imperial Durbar at Delhi, where he received an additional salute of 2-guns, and the rank of a full General in the British Army, 1st January 1877. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Chimnabai Raje Sahib Scindia (b. 1836; d. 15th August 1880), daughter of Ihtiram ud-Daula, Imarat Mahal, Sardar Krishnaji Rao Kadam [Mama Sahib], Muzaffar Jang Bahadur, sometime Regent of Gwalior. m. (second) at Gwalior, 18xx, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Lakshmibai Raje Sahib Scindia (d. at Gwalior), daughter of Sardar Bahaji Rao Gujar, of Ratnagiri. m. (third) at Gwalior, 29th November 1873, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Babuibai Raje Sahib Scindia, alias Rajkumari Shrimant Lakshmibai Raje Sahib Bhonsle (b. at Sawantwadi, 27th August 1857; d. at Gwalior, 4th September 1894), only daughter of Shrimant Ramchandra Sawant [Bhau Sahib] Raje Sahib Bhonsle, of Sawantwadi, by his first wife, Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Lakshmibai Raje Bhonsle, daughter of Shrimant Hanmathrao Nimbalkar. m. (fourth) at Parsen, in Gurd, February 1875, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Sakhyabai Raje Sahib Scindia Bahadur, CI (1.1.1891) (b. 16th October 1862; d. at Sapri, 9th September 1919), Regent of Gwalior 17th August 1886 to 15th December 1894, Colonel-in-Chief 1st Jivaji Gwalior Lancers and of the 1st Maharani Sakhya Rajas Own Gwalior Infantry, daughter of Sardar Sir Krishna Rao [Bapu Sahib] Jadhav, Feroz Jang Bahadur, KCIE. He d. at Jai Vilas Palace, Lashkar, 20th June 1886, having had issue, five sons and four daughters: 1) Yuvaraja Maharaj Shrimant … Rao Scindia Bahadur. He d. in infancy. 2) Yuvaraja Maharaj Shrimant … Rao Scindia Bahadur. Kshatriya Kulavatana Sapta Sahasra Senapati Pratinidhi, Meherban Shrimant Raja Krishnaji Rao II Rukmangad Rao [Baba Sahib] Puar, Raja of Dewas (Senior) (b. 1850; d. 12th October 1899), third son of third son of Shrimant Sardar Madhav Rao Puar, Vishwasrao Bahadur, of Supa, and adopted son of H.H. Kshatriya Kulavatana Sapta Sahasra Senapati Pratinidhi, Meherban Shrimant Raja Rukmangad Rao Tukoji Rao [Khase Sahib] Puar, Raja of Dewas (Senior). She d.s.p. at Dewas, 1st April 1894 - see Dewas (Senior). 2) Maharajkumari Shrimant Gunvantabai Maharaje Sahib Scindia [Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Gunvanta Maharaje Sahib Shitole]. m. at Gwalior, 1886, Umdat ul-Mulk, Raj Rajendra Raja Ramchandrarao [Bawa Sahib] Shitole, Desmukh, Rustam Jang Bahadur (b. 1849; d. 2nd June 1902), Mbr. Cncl. of Regency 1886-1894, son of Sardar Narsinhrao Shitole. She d. 1893, having had issue, a son: a) Colonel Umdat ul-Mulk, Raj Rajendra Sardar Maloji Narsinhrao Shitole, Desmukh, Rustam Jang Bahadur, educ. Sardars Sch., Gwalior Fort. Cdr. Scindias Irregular Troops and Huzurut, Pagnavisi and Ekkan regiments 1917-1919, Presdt. Lashkar Municipality 1919-1922 & 1936-1937, Presdt. Maratha Educational Conf. at Kalyan 1922, Master of Ceremonies 1922-1928, Muntazim Jagirdaran 1928-1934, Minister w/o Portfolio 1937-1938, for Police 1938-1940, and for Industry, Commerce & Communications 1940. Rcvd: Scindia Medal (1912), Coron. medals (1911 & 1937), and Silver Jubilee medal (1935). He d. after 1969. 3) Maharajkumari Shrimant Manubai Maharaje Sahib Scindia [Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Manubai Maharaje Sahib, Lady Shitole]. b. at Gwalior, 1876 (d/o Babui Bai). m. at Gwalior, 31st April 1889, Colonel Amir ul-Umara, Sardar Sir Appaji Rao [Appa Sahib] Shitole, Desmukh, Sena Hardoo Bahadur, Sah Shri Ankliker, KBE, CIE (b. 1874; d. 28th January 1936). 4) Maharajkumari Shrimant … Maharaje Sahib Scindia. b. at Lashkar, 25th September 1878 (d/o Babui Bai) and d. at Gwalior 29th October 1879. Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia also adopted two sons: 1) Maharaja Kumar Shrimant Ganpat Rao Scindia Bahadur, educ. privately. Adopted 1865. Heir Apparent 1865-1876. He d. at Lashkar, 1889. 2) Maharaja Kumar Shrimant … Rao Scindia Bahadur, educ. Deccan Coll., Poona. Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia also had issue, one natural son: 1) Sardar Balwant Rao [Bhaiya Sahib] Scindia, Madarll ul-Moham, CVO (11.11.1911). b. at Lashkar, 1854, educ. Daly Coll., Indore. Sometime acting Chief Minister and ADC to his father 1872, MSC, Public Works Member of the Council of Regency 1888-1894. Rcvd: Delhi Durbar silver medals (1903 and 1911).
