Painted by Edgar Payne As far as traditional landscape painting - TopicsExpress

Painted by Edgar Payne As far as traditional landscape painting goes...Payne has masterfully captured the true essence of the intense natural light here in this piece, I would like to point out how important this is, because if one is trying to capture the true essence of any landscape one must first capture its light properly. After all the various characteristics of light are what makes up the shade values that portray the given dimensions of any object or shape, so if the light isnt right, for any given condition, then one isnt portraying the objects or shapes true dimensions correctly. For this is what creates the reality of what one is painting, and I want to again clarify...this is only if one is trying to capture the true essence of a landscape. Now to capture the light correctly one must use their color correctly. Therefore, I would like to further point out that Payne only uses white here to control the density and intensity for any of the conditions of light. Otherwise pure primary colors and their compliments were used.
