Pak Army’s Contributions. ****************** “No enduring peace without addressing the people’s aspirations” is the lesson that Pak Army has learnt from the series of insurgencies. Keeping this lesson in mind, in addition to security and protection duties, Pak Army and FC are focusing on HR and social sector development of Balochistan from within its own meager resources. Toward this end, highlights of the projects are:- a. 12-Army Schools & Colleges. Imparting education to 8,948 students at Quetta, Zhob, Loralai, Sibi, Khuzdar, Kashmor, Gawadar. b. 32-FC Schools & Colleges. Spread all over Balochistan educating 10,267 students. c. FG Schools & Colleges in Cantts. Catering to educational needs of a large number of students. d. Hostels under Army. Seven hostels at Quetta, Zhob and Khuzdar and many more in cantonments outside Balochistan accommodating about 700 students free of cost. e. 7-New Educational Projects. Started by Pak Army for education and training of Balochistanis are:- • Quetta Institute of Medical Sciences. The second largest in Pakistan, launched in Aug 2011 & classes commenced in Feb 2012. • Military College Sui. Functioning since 18 Apr 2011 with initial intake of over 170 students. • Sui Education City. FC Public School having 1,754 students. • Balochistan Public School Sui. Affiliated with FG Board with 232 students. • Balochistan Institute of Technical Education. Functioning since 26 Feb 2007. So far, 5,514 students including 894 girls trained. • Gawadar Institute of Technology. Started since 18 Apr 2011 with initial intake of 90 students for Diploma in Associate Engineering. • Army Institute of Mineralogy. Established in May 2011 to run two courses, i.e., Mining Techniques & Mining Mechanical Operator. f. Mining Projects. Initiated with active involvement and honest mediation of Pak Army on the requests of all the stakeholders, especially the warring tribes. These are:- • Chamalang Coalmines Project; a mega project whose details to follow. • Musa Khel Coalmines Project • Duki Coalmines Project • Kassa Hills Marble Projects g. Misc Projects by Army • Free medical camps treating 235,308 poor patients since 2006. • Enrolment of 7,654 recruits by lowering standards. 3,000 more this year. • Special ISSB coaching classes. Out of 1,715 candidates, 261 got commission. • Panjgoor Date Farming Project • Musa Sports Complex & Garrison Sports Complex open to civilians. h. Security & Protection Duties. For oil & gas installations including Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline, mining projects, communication infrastructure, Kachi Canal Project, educational institutions, Quetta city and other towns and so on. i. Federally Funded Projects & Supervised by Army • Dera Bugti Development Project worth Rs. 230 M • Kohlu Development Project worth Rs. 3.3 B • Mirani Dam worth Rs. 5.8 B from 2001 to 2006 • Ground Water Recharge of Quetta, Pishin, Mastung & Mangocher Valleys Project at a cost of Rs. 1.1 B • Kirthar Canal Balochistan Portion at Rs. 1.0 B with total CCA of 186,000 acres. • Reconstruction of Bolan Dam at Rs. 605.3 M from 2006/7-09 • Construction of 10 Delay Action Dams in 9 dists at Rs. 831 M • Sabakzai Dam Project at Rs. 1.6 B from 2003-2007 with 32,700 acre feet storage. • Chaghai Water Resource Development and Management Program. • Makran Coastal Highway at Rs. 21.44 B from 2002-2004. • Kalat-Quetta-Chaman Highway at Rs. 6.7 B from 2003-8. • Hub-Uthal Addl Carriageway at Rs. 4.2 B from 2007-10 • Khanozai-Muslim Bagh Road at Rs. 1.8 B from 2006-10 • Muslim Bagh-Kila Saifullah Road • Gawadar Deep Water Port at Rs. 16.675 B from 2002-10. • Number of other misc projects.
