Pak cueists depart on 26th Nov KARACHI: Following the issuance of visas on Monday, the six-member Pakistan squad will be flying out of Karachi on Tuesday morning (today) to reach Latvia in time for the IBSF World Snooker Championship 2013 starting there on Thursday. Abdul Wahid Qadir, Senior Vice President Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA), who will be accompanying the team as manager, informed ‘The News’ here on Monday evening that all was set for them to board the plane early morning. “The visas of Latvia for the team officials were issued a few days ago in Karachi and those of the cueists were handed over to us in Islamabad on Monday, less than 24 hours before our scheduled flight,” he said. Mohammad Asif will be defending his title, which he annexed last year in Sofia, Bulgaria. Mohammad Sajjad, Shahid Aftab and Imran Shahzad will also be competing in the annual global event. It will be Pakistan’s record participation in the World Championship outside the country. “All the four cueists are fully fit and raring to go. They are very confident of bringing the trophy to Pakistan. Asif will be our main hope but Sajjad, Shahid and Imran also have the capability of coming up with sterling performance,” Wahid Qadir observed. Meanwhile, Ali Asghar Valika, Chairman PBSA, hosted a luncheon reception in the honour of the Lativa-bound squad here at the Karachi Club Annexe where he had a detailed session with the cueists. “I am really delighted to find our cueists in such positive frame of mind. They are supremely confident about their potential. Their determination to continue winning augurs well for the future of snooker in the country,” Valika remarked in a brief conversation with ‘The News’.
