Pak seeks engagement with India after border clashes. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday said it would continue to seek political engagement with Indiadespite tensions over border clashes. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said helooked forward to meeting his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singhnext month at the sideline of a U.N. annual gathering. “We will discuss steps to further build trust and consolidate this relationship,” he added. Mr. Sharif also emphasised that “existing military to military channels could be more optimally utilised to prevent misunderstanding and not allowing situation to escalate.” He also expressed “sadness” over the killings on the Kashmir border, and said both India and Pakistan must take steps to restore normalcyalong the frontier. Mr. Sharif told foreign ministry officials that he was sad over the incidents of clashes between Pakistani and Indian soldiers along the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Kashmir between the two countries. “The prime minister said it was imperative for both India and Pakistan to take effective steps to ensure and restore ceasefire on the LoC,” a foreign ministry statement quoted him as saying.
