Pakistan Army lifted the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy after finishing with a whopping 325 medals as the National Games came to a close on Thursday. Army were crowned champions at a colourful closing ceremony organised by the interim Olympic Committee as they finished top of the pile with 6464 points. Pakistan Navy’s tally of 55 medals returned a points total of 2675 as they edged Punjab into second place with Balochistan being awarded the fair play trophy. “I am delighted that Pakistan Army won the event and the most gold medals,” Brig Iqtidar Naseer of Pakistan Army’s sports directorate told Dawn. “These medals belong not just to the Army’s athletes but to the whole nation. We’ve groomed athletes over the years at our physical and educational institutes. “We take promising athletes and turned them into medal winners and the performance of our athletes at the Games is an example of how hard we have been working.”
