• Pakistan yet again violates ceasefire today targeting 4 to 6 Indian Border outpost in Balakote and Mirpur sector of Poonch-Rajouri districts. Sanjiv Chachra, GOC-in-C, Northern Command, called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan, Srinagar last evening & during their more than hour long meeting, they discussed issues relating to internal security management in the three regions of the State. Lt. Gen. Chachra also briefed the Governor about various matters relating to external security management, both along the LoC and LaC, the continuing attempts of infiltration from across the LoC and consequential concerns. Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh, Corps Commander, 15 Corps, was present during the meeting. • Reiterating resolve of the Government to upgrade rural infrastructure, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today said that focused attention is being paid to the development of remote and backward areas in the State. While addressing a public meeting here today, the Dy Chief Minister said that work on the road map to address aspirations of the people living in far-flung areas has already showing results. Deputy Chief Minister was interacting with people during a meeting at Thatri yesterday. • The government has said that increase in postgraduate seats in medical colleges in the country is under consideration on the basis of teacher-student ratio. An official release said, the government has rationalized teacher-student ratio in the medical colleges across the country. It said, the government has also granted financial assistance to 72 state government medical colleges under the scheme for strengthening and upgradation of medical colleges. Our correspondent adds, over one thousand seats for postgraduate courses in different streams including Nephrology, Neurology and Cardiology have been increased for the current academic year. • The Government has said that estimated 614.3 lakh tonnes foodgrains will be required to ensure the successful implementation of the proposed Food Security Act. As per an official release, the procurement will also ensure that farmers get more for their produce. The government has set the current minimum support price for wheat at 12 rupees 85 paise per kilogram and for paddy it is 12 rupees 50 paise per kilogram. About 75 per cent rural population will get foodgrains at the highly subsidized price after implementation of the proposed Act. They will be provided wheat at the rate of 2 rupees per kilogram and rice at the rate of 3 rupees per kilogram. • In an attempt to implement Aadhaar card scheme in Poonch district, 293 enumerators and 150 supervisors have been given training for the Aadhaar card making process. For the purpose 881 enumerator blocks have been constituted and awareness camps are being organized at Tehsil levels. In district Poonch 4, 36835 Aadhaar cards will be distributed. ............Byte:....….. This programme is also available on Doordarshan DTH. • The District Administration Jammu is going to hold a series of camps on different dates for cluster of Panchayats for the expeditious disposal of ex-gratia relief announced by the state government for the people affected due to recent heavy rains and flash floods. Nearly 2 to 4 panchayats have been clubbed under one cluster and camp is being organized in Panchayat Ghar of centrally located panchayat. The affected person has to approach the camp officer with photograph of damage and copy of their Bank Pass Book. Forms have been prescribed which will be available at the camp office and all the details of damages have to be filled in the said form. As per special procedure all the relief applications shall be disposed of within 15 days. It is pertinent to mention that for speedy disposal of relief applications “Special Relief Cell” has been created in Deputy Commissioner Office, Jammu under the overall supervision of Addl Deputy Commissioner (ADM). • Minister for the Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma yesterday visited the site of breach of Tawi canal at Balole nallah near Purmandal Morh to inspect the pace of progress on the restoration work there. He inspected the syphon and directed the executing agency to complete the work within 15 days, taken up at a cost of Rs.119 lakh. Earlier, the Minister, accompanied by the Minister for Housing, Raman Bhalla visited the Bahu Fort to assess the damages to Bahu Fort. They asked the concerned department to formulate a comprehensive plan for the restoration of this important heritage place on priority basis. Ministers were informed that Rs.22 lakh has been kept with JDA for immediate restoration work and damages and other details are being assessed by the Archaeological Survey of India. • The Minister for Labour & Employment, Ajay Sadhotra yesterday conducted a whirlwind tour of Marh area to assess the damage caused to the private and public property in the backdrop of recent rains and flash floods. The Minister visited Tikri Rakwalan, Sarora, Ghoumanhsan, Tarn Chak, Lahouri Chak, Gajansoo, Galwaday Chak, Dhateryal and other villages of Marh. • Minister for Housing, Raman Bhalla has said that the government has sanctioned Rs 40 lakh to reconstruct the protection wall along the left side embankment of Nikki Tawi at Chandmari, Raipur, Satwari damaged due to flash floods recently. The Minister directed the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) to immediately start the construction work of protection wall to protect the soil erosion of the edge area , adding that Government funds have been provided under State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF). The Minister was leading a team of Irrigation and Flood Control Department functionaries during his visit to the damaged site of the embankment at Chandmari yesterday. He said Government has prepared a comprehension plan to raise concrete protection bund from Sidhra to Raipur Satwari to protect the people’s property. • Minister of state for Finance and Planning, Manohar Lal Sharma has called upon civil society to create awakening among the public about the grave consequences of female foeticide. The Minister was addressing the students during a Symposium on "Save the Girl Child" held at Government Higher Secondary School Durung, Billawar in Kathua yesterday. The Symposium was sponsored by the Health Department under National Rural Health Mission. Students from Higher Secondary schools of Durung, Billawar, Parnala, Pallan, Gujjroo Nagrota, Koug, Dungada and Ramkot participated in the competition. • Delhi clinched the trophy of the 3-day Senior National Rugby Championship beating West Bengal in the final which was played at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar yesterday. The Runners up Trophy was handed over to West Bengal team while as J&K team was Plate winner, Kerela was Bowl winner and Mumbai was Shield winner. The Championship was organized by the J&K Rugby Association in collaboration with the J&K State Sports Council under the aegis of Indian Rugby Football Union. As many as 20 teams from across the country, including Jammu and Kashmir participated in the event. The Minister of State for PHE, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, who was chief guest on the concluding ceremony, distributed the trophies and prizes amongst the players.
