Palace Malice (KY) B , C, foaled May 2, 2010 (Curlin - Palace Rumor, by Royal Anthem) looks to be on target for a blockbuster 4 year old season with his recent win in the 1 1/8 miles $400K Grade II New Orleans Handicap at Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots March 29, 2014. Jockey Mike Smith Hall of Fame Jockey was in town to ride and he got Palace Malice away in good order. Bradester went to the front and Palace Malice quickly found a stalking position on the outside as the field rounded the Clubhouse turn and headed down the backstretch. Fordubai was keeping mild pressure on the frontrunner as Palace Malice sat patiently off the pace, in the clear on the outside. As the field entered the far turn Mike Smith could wait no longer and sent Palace Malice for the lead. Palace Malice moved to the front as if the others were standing still, however, Normandy Invasion was a serious threat coming along on the outside. Turning into the stretch Mike Smith allowed Palace Malice to drift further to the outside forcing Normandy Invasion to go wider still. From that point Palace Malice drew off to win by 4 3/4 lengths. Normandy Invasion was 2nd, 6 3/4 lengths in front of Sunbeam in 3rd. Palace Malice, the Belmont Stakes winner of 2013, has now won 5 of 14 starts, 4 of those wins were in Graded company, and he has earned $1,871,135. He was bred by W. S. Farish and he is owned by Cot Campbells Dogwood Stable and he is being trained by Todd Pletcher. Congratulations Everyone!
