Palhallan Youth on bunk to evade arrest spree. Zaingair, 19 Oct, Though there is no official announcement of curfew in Palhallan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, still heavy contingent of Police and paramilitary forces are continuously restricting the movement of civilians there, taking undeclared curfew to 4thday. Locals of this Baramulla town said that they are not even allowed to move out from their houses since first day of Eid on October 16. “On Eid-ul-Zuha, some unknown youth in the area pelted stones on Police vehicle which resulted in death of a cop who succumbed to his injuries. Since then, situation took ugly turn and majority of youth are away from their houses fearing apprehensions that forces will pick them up,” locals said, adding that Police and CRPF have launched door to door searches in the area forcing youth to leave their houses. “As we were sacrificing animals on day one of Eid, at around noon, a large contingent of Police and CRPF entered our house and ransacked all household items and thrashed everyone who came in their way,” Ali Muhammad Wani, an elderly person from the area said. “Since then, we are not being allowed to move out. Even CRPF didn’t allow us to offer Friday prayers,” Wani added. He further said: “In our area (Aram Mohallah), CRPF and Police have crossed all limits by barging into houses besides smashing all window panes and doors that come their way.” Wani said the amount of loss due to forces’ highhandedness is estimated to be more than 2 lakh rupees. When contacted Superintendent of Police (SP), Baramulla, Zubair Ahmed Khan rejected the claims made by locals. He said there are no restrictions on ground and it is rumor that Palhallan is under curfew from last four days. “Everything is normal and situation is under control,” SP said. When contacted Deputy Commissioner (DC), Baramulla, Ghulam Ahmad Khawaja denied that curfew has been imposed in any area of Palhallan or elsewhere in Baramulla district. “People of Palhallan should resume their business as routine as there are no restrictions in place,” DC added.
