Pam Fights Cancer September 30, 2014 Day 26 Mom stayed again - TopicsExpress

Pam Fights Cancer September 30, 2014 Day 26 Mom stayed again last night to relieve Pam. I was up and off to work while Pam slept. This whole ordeal is just mentally exhausting for me, my mind is constantly racing, I can only imagine how Pam feels. Other than saying she’s tired, she is being a real champ about this and not complaining or doing the whole poor me routine. By the time I reached work in Tulare she was up and texting, a good sign. Today was my last day at work for at least the next 31 days. I’ve so badly wanted to stay home and be as close to her as possible since this thing started. I don’t have answers as to why this happening, other than help around the house and with her dad I really can’t do anything for her. We just feel better when we’re together. “Together” for us isn’t always being on top of each other, it’s enough to be in the same room, or even the same house. It’s the comfort of knowing that we can have immediate contact whenever we want, to exchange a glance or a smile, or a touch by something as simple as walking into the next room. Knowing today was my last day is also one of those things that makes this real, makes it scary and I felt somewhat torn which surprised me. I exchanged phone numbers with several of my co-workers, they will want to know how the surgery goes. For the few I have shared with, they have been really encouraging and sympathetic and it has been appreciated by Pam and I. We spoke on the phone during my lunch break and Pam reminded me that today was her dad’s 83rd birthday. So I ended the call so I could go shop and spare her the trip. My Mom made dinner in celebration of Gene’s birthday this evening (meatloaf). Breezy and the girls came over and Nick and Katie were here too and Miah was crashed out. We ate and then he opened his cards and gifts. You could see he was touched by the gestures. Sadly, Pam told me later that Gene could not remember the last time he celebrated a birthday. I’m glad were able to do this little thing for him, he really seemed to enjoy himself. On the cancer front, there is nothing to report today which is a good thing! I’m told we have plans to go to dinner tomorrow night with our friends Joe & Julie, whom we have not seen in some time, so that should be a nice distraction as they are always good company.
