Pam127 with Vintage replica of historic straps made by Peter Gunny Straps This is a memory to the historic part of Panerai, and their models built for the Italian Navy (Marina Militare). When I looked for a set design for this watch, I wanted it to be the logo of the Flottiglia Decima MAS. (the prelude model 127) and different identifications of marine Militare (Command Comsubin Teseo Tesei) etc, and insert in the dial, the color of the real workplace of this watch, the sea, the ocean, the BLUE color, so I decided to reflect the blue sky, which is the reflection of the ocean in the sky, and put the watch on a black neoprene canvas, which represents the diving suits... For what? The Decima MAS Flottiglia was one of the first to use the Panerai watches, when inside the movements were ROLEX machinery. The Panerai 127 is a tribute to the models were subsequently manufactured, so in this picture Ive put together a few sheets identifying the Command and Incursori Subacquei (Command underwater incursion) The Italian Navys COM.SUB.IN is an elite, all-volunteer force of approximately 600 men, operating under the direct command of the Navy Chief of Staff. The unit is composed of of volunteers, who are primarily drawn from the Navys San Marco Marine Regiment. The units history dates back to WW II. During the war the Italians formed several different naval assualt/combat swimmer units to conduct commando operations against naval targets. One of the most famous of these units was carried out by the Xa Flottiglia MAS which carried out several famous raids, during the war, including the sinking of two British battleships in Alexandria harbour. After the september 1943 Italian armistice, the Regia Marinas various assault units of the were divided into two parts, with the units in the southern part of the country (MARIASSALTO) fighting alongside the Allies, and the units in the northern part of the country continuing to fight alongside the Germans. The 1945 Peace Treaty did not allow Italy to possess naval assault units, and as a result, the various assault units were were regrouped in a new organization called MARICENTROSUB after the end of the war. The new unit was mainly used for harbour mine-clearing duties. The Italians had to wait for the abolition of that Treaty and their formal entry in NATO in order to reform a dedicated naval special operations unit. The new unit was given the designation Gruppo Arditi Incursori (GRUPPARDIN), and was based at the Varignano Naval Base, near La Spezia. Is very probable that in the 50s this unit still take some Panerai watches as a tribute or tradition. GOS is COMSUBINs diver unit. GOS-Gruppo Operativo Subacquei (Underwater Operations Group) They are tasked with protecting Italian naval vessels, and facilities from attack by hostile forces, ensuring that the Incursori teams are properly trained to conduct undersea operations, providing support for divers onboard fleet ships, carrying out various undersea duties, conducting maritime search and rescue operations, experimenting with new equipment and develop new diving techniques. GNS -Gruppo Navale Speciale (Special Naval Group): is intended to support COMSUBINoperations; it operates two naval support vessels that are used to transport COM.SUB.IN personnel and equipment. The Panerai Luminor 1950 is a Unique edition of 1950 units of this model created as a special edition to commemorate vintage models made for the Italian Navy. Stainless steel case with a black dial with the 1950 Logo. Because this was the first special edition in the historically correct 47 mm size with a locking crown, it is probably the most popular special edition ever introduced by Panerai. The dial is also sandwiched (2 layer) with luminova numbers as well as the second logo PANERAI. It has gold hands and a gold sub second hand that are just stunning against the black background. It has an exhibition see through back showing off its OPXI movement which looks similar in design to the vintage Rolex pocket watch movement that these pieces housed.
