Pamir day two! We made it to Khorog, through some of the most - TopicsExpress

Pamir day two! We made it to Khorog, through some of the most impressive scenery any of us have seen before. Driving along the Tajikistan/Afghanistan border. A few hours into todays journey, we came across a rather unfortunate team of Americans (forgot your team name sorry!), whos exhaust-less car had broken down. We gave them a short tow to the nearest inspection ramp about 3km away, and left them with hope that they could repair their car and continue. In situations like these we wish we had some mechanical skills! We drove pretty much all day after this, with minimal stops until about 7.30pm when a random guy popped up on the road and flagged us down. We stopped, expecting to have to turn down a hitch hiking request, but was surprised when he asked us to join him over the ridge. Turns out he had a little restaurant and offered us bread, goat liver (we think) and tea! He even gave Bernt some weird bitter leaves for his stomach issues. No hallucinations yet, so thumbs up! In return we offered him vodka, which lead to him telling us how much he loved us and that we were his brothers. We got some interesting history lessons about the region out of him too. At the end he refused payment, and threw the money we offered him the ground and gave us all multiple hugs. We love Tajikistan. Definitely a nice break from the rally, even if it meant we had a 90 minute drive on the dark to Khorog following it. Tomorrow were hoping to get as far as the Kyrgyzstan border, but that might be a tad optimistic!
