PanTanna06-07-13 From the Australian who found the dog tag in Viet Nam 7 June 2013 Message to Tanna Hi Tanna – boy what a shock I have been out of town working and just arrived home to read all these emails about the dog tag. I can’t believe you have found Lanny. What a great story, thanks for your efforts in finding him and also Charlie for the time he put in to contacting people he knew that could help out. I will ring you from Australia as soon as I can and speak to you. The details of the story are as follows For the past 7 years, myself and my wife travel to Vietnam and work as Volunteer teachers teaching English to Vietnamise children for a non profit organisation called Project Indo China, run by an Australian guy by the name of Geoff Shaw. I have a keen interest in the Vietnam war and in our spare time we travel around Vietnam and visit all the battle fields, war museums, etc. 2 years ago we did the DMZ tour up highway 9 to the site of the former US base at KHE SAN. There is now a museum there that shows what the base was like back in the day. After visiting the museum, I wandered off on my own to find the old air strip, which is now overgrown with trees, etc. As I was walking through the undergrowth, I saw something bright shining in the sunlight. I reached down, cleared away the dirt, and found the dog tag. I could not believe it. I brought the dog tag back to Australia with me and over the last 2 years I have been emailing the American Vietnam Veterans Association, the USMC. I even wrote a story and sent it to the American magazine VIETNAM. None of them replied to me. I wanted to find the owner of the dog tag and return it to him myself, but you, Charlie and Warrior have done that for me and I can’t thank you guys enough for all your effort. If possible, could you send me a picture of Lanny with the dog tag when he gets it. I am leaving for Vietnam on Monday, 24th June, and will be there for 6 weeks. I’m trying to get as many Veterans as possible to return to Vietnam to help them get over their long standing suffering. I spoke to Warrior about coming over and said to him I would look after him and take him back to the places he wanted to visit. it would be great for me to meet Lanny in person and take him back to KHE SAN. At Project Indo China, we need all the help we can get in raising money for all our program’s in Vietnam. We run solely on donations. Many Vietnam Vets help us out with fund raising, so if Warrior, Lanny or any other Vets want to do some fund raising, that would really help us out. Please visit our website WWW.PROJECTINDOCHINA.COM Also, we have just made a film about what we do. Go to YOU TUBE, type in project indo china a new dawn. Will ring you as soon as I can cheers John Naismith
