Pandan is everywhere now. I HATE pandanus! Is HATE a strong word- yes. What they dont tell you is that tropically this is a huge invasive plant tree that has razor sharp leaves! And that it was already growing here out of control when I got here-- doesnt grow in the wild? Dont bet on it! Im gently killing it out, and brave friends and I have tussled with cutting it out during which one gets unavoidably all cut up ! At least it has definite food uses. . Pandanus amaryllifolius is a tropical plant in the Pandanus (screwpine) genus, which is commonly known as pandan leaves (/ˈpændənˌlivz/), and is used widely in Southeast Asian cooking as a flavoring. The characteristic aroma of pandan is caused by the aroma compound 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, which maybe gives white bread, jasmine rice and basmati rice (as well as bread flowers Vallaris glabra) their typical smell. The plant is rare in the wild but is widely cultivated. It is an upright, green plant with fan-shaped sprays of long, narrow, blade-like leaves and woody aerial roots. The plant is sterile, flowers only grow very rarely, and is propagated by cuttings. . The good part and the easiest recipe > . https://youtube/watch?v=ehIM1Qa8srE . H.t. Nelson
