Pangasinan peace and order council reorganized Venus May Sarmiento DAGUPAN CITY, March 5 (PIA) – The Peace and Order Council (POC) of Pangasinan was recently reorganized as mandated by law to include new members and new set of elective provincial officials for the term 2013-2016. Gov. Amado Espino, Jr., signed an executive order stating that some council members have been elected or promoted to higher position, transferred to other provinces and retired from the government service, thus the need to reorganize the POC. Espino retains his position as council chairman with Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim as vice –chair. The Provincial Local Government Operations Officer shall act as the PPOC secretariat and shall handle the administrative and technical activities of the council, the Order stated. Members of the POC include the provincial heads of national offices like the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Army, Philippine Information Agency, National Council for Indigenous People, Prosecutor’s Office, Land Transportation Office, Departments of Agrarian Reform,Trade and Industry, Public Works and Highways and Education. Also included are heads of various offices in the provincial government like the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, Health, Agriculture and the Committee on Public Order and Safety of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. The Pangasinan Federation of Non-Government Organizations and the Pangasinan Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce complete the re-organized council. The POC’s primary duty is to provide a forum for dialogues and deliberations of major issues and problems affecting peace and order including insurgency. It is also recommends measures to converge or orchestrate internal security operation efforts of civil authorities and agencies, military and police. It shall also apply moral suasion or recommend sanctions against municipal or barangay executives who are gving material and political support to communist rebels. (MCA/VHS/PIA1-Pangasinan)
