Pangasineneses mourn death of hospital chief By Venus May H. Sarmiento DAGUPAN CITY, Aug 8 (PIA) - Pangasinenses are mourning the death of Dr. Jackson Dabu Soriano, chief of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH)who died of lung cancer last August 4. The 54-year old doctor, who also became the chief of various hospitals in the region, served Pangasinan for 14 years. Provincial officials headed by Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. and provincial employees immediately sent consoling words to Soriano’s family. “I condole with the bereaved family of the late Dr. Jackson Soriano, a very close friend and reliable partner in our reformed health care program. His untimely demise is a great loss to us especially in our advocacy of bringing quality health care and upgraded hospital services within the reach of our less privileged province mates. We pray for the eternal repose of his soul,” Espino said. Veteran journalist Behn Fer. Hortaleza, Jr. said he was saddened with Soriano’s passing saying he was a good doctor and a good man. San Carlos City Information Officer Rachel Sapigao said Soriano’s body will be brought to his hometown in San Carlos on Thursday. Soriano died at the St. Luke’s hospital in Manila. Based on a fact sheet that the Provincial Information Office released, Soriano first worked at the Bolingit Provincial Hospital now PPH where he worked as medical specialist. He tried his luck at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in Ilocos Sur in 1999 where he became a chief of hospital for four years. He was chief of hospital of the Jose R. Memorial Medical Center in Manila for five years and later worked at the Regional Medical Center (RIMC) in Dagupan City as chief of Medical Professionals Staff for five years. In March 2005, Soriano returned to Pangasinan and became the province’s chief of hospital. He also assumed as officer-in-charge of the Provincial Health Office in 2009. Soriano, son of former Congressman Jack Soriano of San Carlos City, was survived by his wife Marilen and his three children Jackleen Laurice, Joshua Lorraine and Josh Wilbur Lauren.
