Panic gripped Bemina area of the City Wednesday morning following a murderous assault by unidentified assailants on the family of a Molvi whose two children were killed – throat slit –while wife is battling for life. Police has detained the family head for questioning and is hopeful to crack the case soon. Aaliya Iftikhar (5) and Muhammad Hashim (3) and their mother Naseema (40) wife of Molvi Muhammad Iftikhar Lone were found lying in pool of blood in their apartment next to Masjid Noor Iqbalabad Bemina soon after morning prayers. Lone, an Imam, is believed to have been leading the pre-dawn prayers at the Masjid when the incident took place. Police said that assailants barged into his apartment and attacked his family. It said the assailants slit throat of Ahmad’s wife, Naseema, and the two children with a sharp edged weapon. Police sources said that the trio was rushed to SMHS Hospital. The kids, Aaliya and Hashim, were declared brought dead while their mother is undergoing treatment. The news of murder of children triggered panic in City while chaos was witnessed in SMHS hospital as the bodies arrived there. Senior officials including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Syed Aashiq Hussain Bukhari visited the spot. The forensic team also inspected the spot. “The children as well their mother have had injuries of blade and investigators have recovered a packet of blade from the incident site,” said a police official. He said bodies of both the children were later shifted to Pantha Chowk hospital for postmortem. The SSP Srinagar, Syed Aashiq Hussain Bukhari told Greater Kashmir that the Imam, Iftikhar has been detained. “We have detained him for questioning,” SSP said adding that they are hopeful that case would be cracked soon. However, police sources said that some other people including another Molvi have been questioned. “He(other Molvi) said that Naseema had refused to take Sehri…Things are being investigated minutely,” he said. Molvi Iftikhar, a resident of Gurez in Bandipora district, has been Imam at the Srinagar Masjid for the past over two years.
