Parent Support Group Officer (PSGO): Sport 4 Socialisation Deadline: 18 March 2014 (5pm) Location: Mutare, Zimbabwe Sport 4 Socialisation African children with disabilities are often hidden away, locked-up and isolated from society. Nobody believes in their potential. But S4S does! The only prerequisite is an encouraging environment. We empower these children to break free from their isolation and surprise society with their potential. We inspire, encourage and coach them to move boundaries. We create lasting change by involving the whole community. We achieve this by: - Strengthening them through physiotherapy and adapted physical activity - Connecting them with both able-bodied and disabled peers - Teaching them to stand up for themselves in society - Educating their families on dealing with disability and fending for themselves economically - Inspiring, encouraging and coaching their communities to change attitudes on disability. We monitor the progress of our children and their families throughout their interaction with S4S to ensure everyone achieves their maximum potential. The role of the Parent Support Group Officer (PSGO) As the Parent Support Group Officer you will be responsible for the capacity building and strengthening of the Parent Support Groups. These groups consist of caregivers of children living with a disability. It will be your tasks to help them to become self-sufficient and self-organised within the contract period. Key tasks and responsibilities In general be responsible for the capacity building and monitoring & evaluation of activities for the Parent Support Groups (PSGs) as part the programmes of S4S. Therefore the PSGO shall: - Develop a long term self-sustainability plan with the 4 support groups - Identify, develop and facilitate capacity building training sessions for the 4 support groups - Provide capacity building and guidance for the Internal Savings and Lending Programme and other Income Generating Projects - Be responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the groups activities - Maintain and improve relations with partners and stakeholders - Prepare periodic evaluation reports - Prepare periodic work plans, incl. budgets. Key requirements Education Bachelor (or Master) Degree in Social Science; Development Studies or Sociology Work experience and knowledge - Proven experience in a similar position - Proven experience in monitoring and evaluation - Proven experience in community development - Proven experience about Internal Savings and Lending schemes - Proven knowledge about disability - Excellent written and verbal English communication skills - Computer literate, excellent with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook - Knowledge about disabilities or willing to learn and work with children living with disabilities Personality - Proactive - Good and open communicator who is a critical thinker and has a strong personality - A professional orientation to work - Impeccable integrity - Committed Duration of contract: 6 months (start date 1-04-2014) Remuneration: Gross US$525, plus medical aid, transport and cell phone contribution.
