Parent: “Would you like cereal for breakfast?” Two year old: - TopicsExpress

Parent: “Would you like cereal for breakfast?” Two year old: “No.” Parent: “How about eggs?” Two year old: “No.” Parent: “Toast?” Two year old: “No.” Parent: “Well, then what do you want for breakfast?” Two year old: “I want no.” The period we call “the terrible twos” is actually pretty neat, as toddlers experience strong needs for autonomy and struggle to find their places in a baffling, sometimes overwhelming world. Given love and appropriate discipline, kids can emerge with an enhanced sense of who they are, as well as a growing ability to consider the needs and feelings of others. One of my favorite stages, as a psychologist, father, and grandfather.
