Parent letter in case you missed it this week! Hear ye, hear ye all campers and family! We are so excited that you are joining us for a week of Medieval Merriment at Singing Cedars Day Camp to be held June 17th – 21st at Westover Park in Harrisonburg. The camp staff wants your daughter to have a great week at camp so we have included some additional information to help you both prepare for the week. Please take time to read this information. If you have any questions, you may ask them at the camp’s open house or call Jeannie Lopez at 540-435-8480. Open House: Open house for campers’ and their families will be held Sunday, June 16th at 6pm in Shelter #3 at Westover Park. This gives campers’ and their families an opportunity to ask questions meet the leaders and get any last minute information. Drop Off/Pick Up: Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. In the mornings girls should be dropped off at the yellow “Singing” Bench no earlier than 8:45 a.m. and no later than 8:55 a.m. Girls may be picked up in the afternoons from their unit after 4 p.m. ALL CAMPERS MUST BE SIGNED OUT BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN THROUGH THE UNIT LEADER. If anyone other than a parent or guardian is picking a girl up, a note must be sent to the camp director. Health & Safety: We stay very active at camp and the sun can be very draining. It is important that the girls drink lots of extra water and get plenty of sleep during the week. We want the girls to enjoy themselves outdoors, learn new things, and make new friends. Health History: Your daughter’s Health History is very important. This helps us ensure that your daughter safety and needs are met during camp. If you feel that you have forgotten to put anything on the Health form, please meet with the camp’s nurse, Janice Mitchell, on Monday morning at shelter #3. Medication: If your daughter is on medication that will need to be given to her during camp, please send those each day. Medicines must be in their original container sealed within a zip lock bag containing your daughter’s name and dosage. All medications must be given to the camp nurse who will keep and administer as specified by you and your daughter’s doctor. In addition, on the last page contains a form with a list of medications/treatments that are in the camp’s first aid kit. Please complete the form with your daughter’s name and check all medications that you will allow to be given to her if needed. This form must be signed by the parent or guardian and returned to camp on Monday, June 17th. Clothing: Camp clothing should be comfortable and protect the girls from the natural hazards of being outdoors. For this reason clothing should consist of T-shirts, shorts, socks and tennis shoe. Tank tops and open toed shoes such as flip flops and crocs are prohibited. During camp girls do many activities that they may get dirty doing. Girls should not wear new clothing. Swimming: Girls will be swimming this year on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons and will complete a swim test on the first swim day. To facilitate the process of getting to the pool, we are asking that girls wear their swim suits under their clothes to camp on these days and bring dry under garments to change into after swimming. Meals & Lunches: Girls will need to bring their lunch from home every day with the exception of Thursday and Friday of camp. Lunches should include high energy, easy to eat foods such as crackers and cheese, vegetables, fruit, sandwich and a drink. Please pack lunches with ice packs if there is potential for anything to spoil. Coolers are not provided for lunches. Also please do not send glass containers. Overnights: Rising 6th grade and up will stay Wednesday night with the rising 3rd, 4th and 5th graders joining them on Thursday night. We will have groups of parents patrol the camp in addition to notifying the Harrisonburg Law Enforcement. Please let us know if you can volunteer.
