Parental Training Of Children Parents’ role is to bring up their children to develop them to be physically and mentally strong. To teach them the moral and spiritual values, according to the Scriptures. This is the best legacy they can have so that when they grow and become parents too, they are able to carry on the teachings to the next generation and so forth and so on. Sending the children to school is just a part of a learning process. The other important role of a parent, especially the mother begins, as soon as the baby is born when she feeds the baby with her first breast milk. This, biologically and psychologically strengthens the bond between the mother and the child. The wise man says: “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Being a parent is not a simple task that a comprehensive preparation for both father and mother must be well concerted. Family planning therefore, is very essential and imperative for a healthy and meaningful life for parents and children’s relationships. The ideal child and parent relationship, which the Scripture says is this: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother—which is the first commandment with a promise—that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. Rearing children in this country is not easy as the environment is extremely polluted by the world. Apart from the air, noise, garbage, chemical pollution, the evil minds of so many people are the worst pollutants. The Bible teaches us to discipline our children. We must train our children, “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little” (Isaiah 28:10). We must teach the child the very moment he has any understanding at all. Parents are the best source of knowledge, and the molder of values. Again, it has to be a little here, and a little there until the child acquires a complete grasp of values. Teaching the Bible at an early age to a child is like sending the child into the highest school of education where, learning the Word of God is the most solid foundation. Unlike ordinary education where learning knowledge is not permanent yet expensive; and doctrines are temporal in nature as time changes; the Bible is perpetual and the absolute Word of God. The Bible tells us: “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him” (Proverbs 13:24). May be this is a case of a father and son relationship, whereby the ‘spoiled brat’ was coined after, to indicate the tolerance by the father to a son when he covers up for the son’s misdeeds, or a collusion exists between. On the other hand, a father must not arbitrarily use the rod as a tool to unjustly rebuke the son. Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:1-4). The parents have all the options not to withhold correction from the child to learn. The wisdom of the wise man says, “Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death” (Proverbs 23:14). In this modern time, you will rarely see the streets empty with children from morning until late afternoon, or early evening, as most parents are out earning their living. Consider then the time each family has to share among themselves after office hours when the parents are back; when most homes are equipped with televisions, and each member scrambles for programs of their choice, and the parents are exhausted. Perhaps it is only during dinner time that parents see their children. But how many children dine in front of this one eyed monster? What about those children whose parents are far away working? Whatever is the case, the Bible has solutions to all these problems, and one is the church. However, when we speak of a church, there must always be qualifications so as not to mislead the believers. By this, we refer to any Bible based church that believes that Jesus Christ is the only way, and the truth, and the life (John 14:6). If someone claims to have gone to a good school and to have received the proper education but has not read and understood the Bible yet, I would consider such person purely empty, and lacking in everything. There is no occasion and never a circumstance that we can depart from God and His Word. Remember the story of Jonah, even when he was in the belly of a huge fish, God was there. What we are saying is that the laws of God: moral, spiritual and physical laws govern us. The Bible tells us all these laws. The Bible is not only historical but futuristic as well. Remember our God knows the beginning and the end, for He is the Alpha and the Omega, “...who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8). There is no substitute to the training and the education that comes from the Word of God, the Bible. There we learn everything from creation to salvation; we learn the physical and spiritual attributes of the universe; we get the best education there is—that of knowing who our Creator is—none other than the Author of the Bible, the Almighty God Himself! God loves His Word, we too are to love what He loves (Psalm 138:2). The Gospel Letter Ministry
