Parenting thought of the day (disclaimer-this is not a reflection of myself or anyone specific, but more of a generalization): People think they have so much control over their children until they become pre-teen/teenagers. Its pretty easy to have well-behaved children. The solution to following through with that through the older years is to spend alot of serious quality time with your children consistently as they grow up. Know what your child is doing, what they like, what they dont like, who they are with, who they really are. Dont rule with an iron fist, but do be diligent in letting them know you love them enough to not allow them to ruin their lives. Im not a perfect parent and my kids are not perfect, but I know this is true. As a single mom, I have struggled with finding this time, but find ways to do it because its important. Also, dont be so quick to judge a parent of teens...... Its a hard job, but requires so much love, tough love, and a serious desire to see your teen succeed and be happy.
