Parents/Caregivers of Year 6/7 learners coming into Years 7/8 in 2014 At Whangaparaoa College we currently allow learners to bring devices to school and negotiate with their teacher(s) re their use. We currently have 3 x Year 8 eClasses trialling using devices in the classroom (each learner in the class has provided their own device). There has been positive feedback regarding the use of these devices. Improved engagement, behaviour, and home learning completion have, in particular, been commented upon. Year 7 and 8 teachers have been consulted and are all keen to take on the use of devices in their classrooms to improve teaching and learning. We are therefore planning to hold a meeting of all parents of learners currently in Year 6 and Year 7, going into Years 7 & 8 in 2014, to inform them of feedback from the trial eClasses and to gain an indication of interest for their children bringing devices full-time to their classes in 2014. I emphasise that devices would be used when appropriate to improve engagement and achievement. Books and pens will still be used. This meeting will be held on Tuesday 22 October, 6.30 pm in the school auditorium. We strongly encourage ALL parents of learners in these year levels to come along to this meeting.
