Parents, I am pasting a copy of the fall parent meeting handout - TopicsExpress

Parents, I am pasting a copy of the fall parent meeting handout below. Please read it over and respond if you have any questions. Thanks! Coach Smeltzer. Team Rules, Attendance Policy and Important Info The coaching staff would like to extend to all parents a welcome to the 2013 season of the Ashland Middle School 8th Grade Football Program. It is our desire to make this season as enjoyable and rewarding to all young men who are participating in this team. This handout has been created to help all parents understand the policies of the team so that we can have a productive season together. First of all, one of the biggest challenges we have to overcome as a coaching staff is the issue of playing time in games. We, as being parents ourselves, totally understand the concern parents have in regards to playing time in games for their sons. Since we coach a sport where all players are kept on the team and there are no cuts, we cannot guarantee equal playing time for all players. Unlike the 7th grade year where all players are given as equal playing time as possible, we cannot make such guarantees. With that said, we encourage you to help support us by making sure that your son is at practice every day and participates in all of the activities as much as possible. We make playing time decisions based upon the amount of effort we see in practice on a daily basis. Our job is to prepare these young men for high school level football which is why we run our program similarly to the high school staff. Therefore, any player who shows up daily but refuses to take part in hitting drills will be unable to be put in a game due to a fear of injury. Any help that you can give us in this area would be greatly appreciated. Secondly, in an effort to encourage good attendance from each player, the following policy will be effective this season. Any player who misses a day of practice for any reason, which could be illness or a family emergency or trip, will automatically have one quarter of playing time taken away from the next game. This is done to encourage the players who show up daily to continue to do so and also allows other players time in games who normally might not be starters. For example, we have four practices per week. If a player misses practice on Monday, they may start playing in the next game until the 2nd quarter. This applies to all players and is not selective. Starting positions will be adjusted for the first quarter until that time has been made up. Therefore, as many days as a player practices in that week, that will equal how many quarters that player can play that week. Any questions regarding this policy should be directed to Coach Smeltzer ASAP. Attached to this letter is the game schedule for this season. All home games are held at Community Stadium and begin at 5:30PM. We will be in need to chain gang crews for those games. Please call Coach Smeltzer if you would like to help. Also, for away games we could also use help from any parents who would like to organize away game snacks for the boys. We usually do not get home until after 7:00PM and a snack would help the boys make it until dinner. If you would like to contribute funds towards this or help put together the snacks, please contact Coach Smeltzer ASAP. Practice takes place daily at the high school practice fields and lasts until 5:30PM. Please understand if we have your son out a little bit late. Allow time for dressing and storing equipment in the locker room. We will do our best to have them out by 5:30 sharp. Our locker room will be in Community Stadium and that is where you should pick up your son. Our bus also departs from there for away games and returns us there as well. In conclusion, if you have any questions or complaints regarding playing time I suggest that you email me or call me on weekdays after 1:00PM using my cell number. Please DO NOT call me after games, approach me after a practice in front of other players or call me late in the evening. As I have explained above, we are totally aware of playing time for our young men and will be as fair as we can in determining that for each player. Using profanity or verbally attacking the coach is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I will do my best to address your issue with the staff and handle it in a professional manner. I, along with the other coaches, look forward to an exciting season of Arrow Football and hope that all of you are able to enjoy it with us as well.
