Parents, PLEASE take the time to watch this short video. It concisely explains my biggest disagreement with common core: it takes educational decisions about OUR children completely out of our hands and gives it to the federal government. Anyone ever heard of the tenth amendment to the Constitution? And are you willing to hand over ALL control about what your child learns to standards designed by the federal government? The curriculum will logically follow the standards that are set forth. You need to be aware that there is NO RECOURSE if you are unhappy with what is being taught. Unless our governor or our school board opts out, our teachers are required to follow whatever standards that common core mandates. And did you know that common core is a changing set of standards? They can be changed at any time, and again, we have no voice in it. When our governor agreed to this, we basically became a slave to whatever the powers that be (in this case businesses who have much to gain) decide to shove down our throat.
