Parents and Students, As many of you may know, Langston is a big supporter of the Honor Flight organization. Honor Flight Upstate South Carolina is a non-profit, volunteer based program that is dedicated to honoring our World War II veterans and the sacrifices they have made to keep our nation safe and our people free. The organization flies WWII veterans to Washington DC for the day, to visit the memorial built in their honor. Langston was involved in raising money for the first Honor Flight to leave from GSP, and we have been supporters of this organization ever since. There is an Honor Flight going from GSP to DC this Thursday, September 12th. Mr. Abel and I will be on that flight as guardians, ensuring that the vets have a safe and memorable trip. This will be my second Honor Flight. Last spring, three Langston staff members traveled to DC with an Honor Flight, and two years ago, one of our former students went as a guardian on an Honor Flight. We would like parents and students to welcome our vets home from DC on Thursday evening. We are due in at 8:15pm so please arrive at 7:45pm. We will be at the FedEx area of the airport, which is behind the main terminal. Wear a Langston shirt and bring an American flag to wave! Both parents and students may count this time towards their community service hours. On a fundraising note…Honor Flight Upstate SC is having their annual golf tournament on Monday, September 30th, at Willow Creek Golf Club. I have attached a registration form and sponsor form to this email. You may register individually, or as a team. If you would like to contribute to this worthy organization without sponsoring anything specific, you may send cash or check (payable to Honor Flight Upstate SC) to Langston’s front office and we will get it to the Honor Flight organization.
