Parents: foster your childrens innate curiosity. I get that kids - TopicsExpress

Parents: foster your childrens innate curiosity. I get that kids ask a lot of annoying questions, and Im no father myself; but there are just so many people around today that have had their inquisitiveness sucked out of them by a society that just shuts kids down. When a kid asks, why is the sky blue, and the response they get every time is one of annoyance and exasperation or a complete non-answer (because thats the way things are), its like a little bit of the light of exploration dies as they quickly learn that being curious is not acceptable. Why not instead encourage discovery by answering to the best of our ability; and furthermore, encouraging more? If you dont know how to explain something, why not still at least praise the childs curiosity (thats a smart question) and foster critical thinking (I dont know the answer to that, but we can try to figure it out with a little research when we have the time). Instead of just giving answers point blank, why not also teach the child how such answers are achieved rather than just the end result? Seems to me that if only more people knew *how* to think, we could spend less time worrying about *what* they think as they become capable and even eager to seek answers. Im thankful that I had teachers (including my parents, who qualify as teachers in more than one sense) that never shut me down. Lets all be like that to the youths we know in our lives to help build a better tomorrow.
