Paris Attacks All life lost to violence is tragic, but why is - TopicsExpress

Paris Attacks All life lost to violence is tragic, but why is there such a huge outpouring of grief and outrage about the loss of life in Paris but not our constant murdering of innocent life in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere over the last 10+ years? Hundreds of thousands have died at our hands, but there is nowhere near the upset and anger that was expressed for 17 lives in Paris. What is the difference? Are their lives worth less than ours? Why are we not outraged by the countless millions living in poverty? Why are we not enraged about our exploitation of cheap labour in other countries to keep us clothed? There are so many forms of violence that our society engages in to enjoy our ridiculous way of life, but it’s violence that seems to be happening to ‘others’, and those ‘others’ seem to be less important to us, their plight less tragic, the violence inflicted upon them less meaningful. I feel for the families of those lost in Paris, but no more and no less than any other human on this planet suffering through violence.
