‘Park of the Month’ campaign launched NORTH PORT -- In conjunction with the National Park and Recreation Month in July, the city of North Port Parks and Recreation Division is kicking off a new “Park of the Month” campaign to increase awareness of the city’s neighborhood parks and associated amenities. Parks and Recreation Manager Sandy Pfundheller said, “Our goal is to highlight both passive and active parks and generate new visits to these parks, especially the lesser known neighborhood parks. Parks and recreation activities can be enjoyed by all ages. I encourage everyone in the community to get outside, get active and play for life.” As part of the Park of the Month campaign, residents are encouraged to take photos of their visit to the park of the month and submit them to Parks and Rec. Ten photos will be selected randomly to be highlighted on the city website each month and may be included in future marketing materials to promote recreation activities, parks and facilities. Please submit your photographs in .jpg format (5MB limit per image) to parks@cityofnorthport. The first park to be featured is Marius Park, 6890 Marius Road. This half-acre park boasts a tree canopy and is the site of the King Neptune tree sculpture that was recently refurbished by three local high school art students. Take a short stroll through the park and find a dozen different types of trees. Other amenities at the park include picnic tables, bench, grill and a large greenspace area. Visit cityofnorthport and click on the Parks and Recreation/Park of the Month tab to learn more about this neighborhood park.
