Parliament calls on UN to immediately consider situation in Crimea – address Kyiv, March 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian parliament has called on the UN to immediately consider the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. A total of 250 MPs out of the 334 registered in the session hall voted for a respective address at a meeting on Thursday. Recently, despite the restraint and moderation of the actions of the government agencies of Ukraine and its Armed Forces and all attempts to solve the conflict peacefully, the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea is deteriorating due to increased actions by the Armed Forces and the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. In fact, the issue concerns an unprovoked act of aggression against Ukraine by the Russian Federation and its attempts to annex part of the territory of a sovereign state, reads the address. Given this, Ukraine as a state-founder of the United Nations, based on the provisions of paragraph 1, Article 1, paragraphs 3 and 4, Article 2 of the UN Charter, urges the United Nations, in accordance with paragraph 2, Article 11, to immediately consider the current situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, due to gross violation by the Russian Federation in relation to Ukraine of the fundamental principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter. According to the address, under the right to self-defense recognized by the UN Charter (Article 51), Ukraine reserves the right to apply to the states or a regional collective security system for assistance to restore its sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability.
