Part 1: Search for Zelda (cat last seen on May 11, 2013 from Holland). During the past month I received a few calls about a similar-looking cat which callers had just noticed in the downtown area and thought it could possibly be Zelda, due to remembering the poster campaign. Due to the young owner being out of town, I had to locate and photograph the cat for her to help try to identify her. As I had to trap the cat due to her elusiveness, this next 4-part series of posts will deal with trapping tips for elusive animals and the bittersweet results of this portion of the search. In this first video which shows the cat in question, you will see two common problems...the cat avoiding the trip plate (by stepping over it, leaning over it) and in the second clip, actually taking out the bait itself and eating it outside the trap. It is useful to have a trail/game camera aimed at the trap for this reason - sometimes with a cat or dog humane trap, the bait will have vanished, and you will need to know what animal consumed it. In the following video, there is a trap alarm (a motion sensor alarm) which alerts me to something in the trap but is not fully visible here.
