Part 2: No Luna - How to express I got this from Maui :-) The point is to express the hula in your face as you understand it. Youre trying to convey to the audience the meaning of this hula. This is not the direct translation from the kahiko chant. The tune is upbeat. You are telling a story. The faces looked pleasant, engaged, thoughtful, and smile at times. Work on the technical aspects of hands and feet so they become second nature. Then you can express the poetry of the words through your facial expressions to engage the audience. There really are no absolutes in auana, as evidenced by different kumu and their individual style. There where a lot of really interesting things Keali’i explained about hula and the background but I am sorry I am not able to write it all down. ;-) If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.
