Part 7. Up until now I have have not elaborated on my genealogy search. I got the directions from Cynthia (the desk clerk at the motel) and headed to the Archives on Wednesday morning not realizing there was a building that held the National Archives and a building that housed the Georgia Archives. Well I proceeded to go into the National archives which I knew I needed to go into anyway because I needed to find the military records for my 3rd great grandfather William Grantham. I had seen many entries in various indexes that listed him as being R.S. [Revolutionary Soldier] but could never find his Muster Roll or Pay Roll. The security guard questioned my need to go into the records room in the National Archives. This was because most people confuse the National with the State Archives. After assuring him I did need to go in there I went in and found Williams military record that he was a private in Capt. Kelleys Detachment of the Georgia Militia as a private from May 18, 1793 through May 25, 1793. after finding this then I headed over to the State of Georgia Archives to begin my search there. There I found several land bounties of his and to cases where he had been sued by someone for a debt he owed them. Still nothing to link John (2nd great grand father) and William (3rd great grandfather. On Wednesday I had only paid attention to 2 boxes that were in the conservatorship files which are not on microfilm, they are just indexed in the Ga database and the contents of the files are not. After viewing these debtor files and requesting copies I head back to the microfilm area again and found his marriage record to Edy Williams. Then being tired I headed back to the motel. More to come.
