Part 8. Almost there..... Thursday morning I was debating whether to head to Hancock county where Edy and William married to see if I could find my document to connect John to William. I had stopped at the tourist center to get the directions and as I was going back to the car I decided to go back to the Georgia Archives one more time. This time when I keyed in William Grantham I realized there were other files other than the debtor files. I found two listings. One was for William Grantham and one for William Grantham Jr. I had already known that William Jr had filed for Depradation claims with Georgia due to the death of his father which was documented in the History of Stewart County volumes I and II. Stewart county was developed from some of the area that William had lived in during 1828. I asked the ladies at the desk where the depradation claims were prior to going to the computer again. I did not find what I was looking for in those books. I finally realized that the box listed for William and William Jr might reveal something so I called for it. The Conservator called me to the reading room once the file clerk and retrieved the boxes and as soon as I opened the folder it was just like and episode on So who do you think you are? I found my treasure..... the link between John and William Senior. It was an affadavit revealing how William Senior, William Junior, John and another person had went to the Indian Camp to talk to the Indians regarding cattle that had been taking by the Indians. The Indians fired upong William Senior et al and he was killed. William Jr lifted him up on his horse and carried him home. I immediately started crying, the the conservator started crying and the girls outside the room were crying because they knew how desparate I had been to find that document.
