Part IV Caleb was somewhat surprised at the bright spirit of his daughter this morning and looked forward to the opportunity to have breakfast with her. In general, he did not sufficiently whet his appetite as he should each morning, preferring instead to drink a tall glass of orange juice and grab whatever he could find on the go. Usually it was an apple or a banana, but on occasion a granola bar made its way into his digestive system before the noon hour as well. By the time Caleb had rounded the corner into the kitchen, Jessica had already taken out the pancake griddle and was in the process of gathering the required ingredients. “Is it okay if we have chocolate chips in the pancakes today?” the girl asked her father, with a face only a begging puppy could match. “Sure, why not,” Caleb said, knowing that the extra sugar in the chocolate would only cause his momentum to peak out earlier in the day than he would normally be willing to accept. “Chocolate and honey are two flavors that aren’t appreciated enough in concert.” The family, being in the honey business, preferred their sticky treat to maple syrup as the topping for not only pancakes, but also french toast and waffles. It may take the unadjusted palate some getting used to, but the honey made a nice addition to almost any breakfast. To be continued…
