Part of a short contradulatory speech I have to San Jose Statue University (SJSU) students at an awards ceremony. Each of the students had received scholarships from private donors in STEM majors based on academic achievements. One was the Robert P. Oates (my father) Scholarship to undergraduates in physical sciences, math, and computer science for students who are the first generation of their family to go to college. These students were all amazing, and their parents who attended, are models of how people should encourage their childrens dreams.
