Part of our certain hope – Jesus return for His Bride, the Church – our resurrection “But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” For the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-58 (NASB) Loving Jesus and waiting expectantly for His return for us gives us a PEACE that as we listen to God and obey Him, the things He has us doing are not empty or in vain. Sometime we may get discouraged; we may have trouble seeing the reason for many things, many problems that come into our life, but it all is important. Physical death is not to be feared and sin has no power over us because Jesus took care of sin on the cross and rose in victory over the grave. His victory is ours as children of God, Christ followers. Because you know your victory and know that the things you do are not in vain, it should encourage you to keep on keeping on, to have an unshakable faith and to tirelessly walk in the works that God has prepared for you to walk in (Eph. 2:10) As Hodge says in his “A Commentary on the First Epistle to the Corinthians”, “Such being the truth and importance of the doctrine of the resurrection, Christians should be firm in sticking to it, not letting themselves be moved by the specious objections of philosophy falsely so called. They should remember that if the dead do not rise, then Christ did not rise; and if Christ did not rise, their faith is in vain, and they are still in the power of sin. But as Christ has risen, and as his resurrection illustrates that of his people, and makes it certain, what is more natural and proper than that they should give themselves fully to the work of the Lord?” We have a certain hope! Not a wishing hope. We know what Jesus did and we need to live expectant of His return and be working with Him to bring as many as possible into the knowledge of and a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus. The resurrection is real and it is a certainty! Jesus will return for us and until He does we can take comfort in knowing that our life and works that He directs are of eternal value. We can take joy in the fact too that when He returns we shall be with Him forever! “Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and SO WE SHALL ALWAYS BE WITH THE LORD”. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 Keep working and keep watching!
