Part of the reason I hate even acknowledging these anti-CrossFit - TopicsExpress

Part of the reason I hate even acknowledging these anti-CrossFit blog posts is giving attention to someone who is generally just trying to drive traffic to their own business or website. Case in point: This post about Why I Dont Do CrossFit that has been floating around social media for the last day or so. This post by Aja Barto and the accompanying comments have found some incredibly ironic suggestions, prescriptions and even a video of her doing the things she warns against in a CrossFit gym. Long story short, just keep doing what you enjoy and works for you. Regardless of what you are doing for fitness, you should do your research on who is coaching you. If they just finished their CrossFit certification last weekend (which by the way, is pretty standard throughout the industry, unfortunately), then you should probably be a little more cautious when they are making prescriptions for you. If something hurts or feels uncomfortable, DONT DO IT. But just because someone is associated with CrossFit doesnt make them a good coach or a bad coach or have good or bad programming. To the same point, this Us vs. Them thing is incredibly counter-productive. One of the greatest things about CrossFit is that we borrow from all of the best in fitness and strength and conditioning. We utilize weightlifting, powerlifting, running, gymnastics, kettlebells, mobility and stability work, etc. And if youve been paying attention, youve realized how many incredibly high level coaches in each of these disciplines have gotten involved with CrossFit. Some of these blog posts have valid points, but theyre not universal, nor specific to CrossFit. As a strength and conditioning professional (with a wall full of certifications) who happens to enjoy coaching and participating in CrossFit, I find it a little annoying that these posts must scare people away from something that many, many people enjoy and find effective.
